Start Your Path To Better Hearing

Hearing Aid Fitting

During the hearing aid fitting, we will program your hearing aids, based on a prescription, to meet your hearing needs. Real ear measurement testing will be completed to verify that that hearing aids are accurately programmed to give you optimal results and the best chance of success. In addition to this objective test, the audiologist will be assessing your subjective benefit from the hearing aids using the Client Oriented Scale of Improvement (COSI).

The audiologist will explain how to use the devices, how to insert and remove them, how to change batteries and how to care for and clean the devices. It is a good idea to bring family members or close friends to the hearing aid fitting so they can help remember all the information that is given and be a support to you.
Your hearing aid fitting is only a starting place. Adjusting to hearing aids is a process; it often takes weeks to acclimate. You will be encouraged to wear the hearing aids on a consistent basis to help with adaptation to better hearing. There will be several follow-up visits to make adjustments after you have had the opportunity to wear them in your everyday environment. We offer and encourage you to attend one of our aural rehabilitation classes to help get the most out of your hearing aids.

Attitude is one important key to success with hearing aids. Hearing aid studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude do better with hearing aids. If you, as well as your spouse or family, approach your hearing aid fitting with a positive outlook you will have a much better listening experience more quickly. Keep in mind that it may take some time to get used to the sounds you were missing, and by working closely with your audiologist, you will get the most out of your new hearing aids.
