What Will You Learn at a Hearing Aid Fitting

There are a lot of misconceptions about hearing aid fittings. A lot of people assume that these are quick appointments where the audiologist simply makes sure that the device will stay inside of the ear. However, this is not the case, as most appointments will last at least one hour depending on what kind of questions you have. You will learn everything there is to know about your hearing device and how to care for it properly. With that being said, continue reading to discover everything you need to know about what you are going to learn during your hearing aid fitting.

Testing the devices

Before you have your hearing device fitted, your audiologist is going to conduct a complete hearing test. The purpose of this is to determine the volume of sound that is uncomfortable for you, as well as measuring the softest sounds that you can hear. This is important because it gives your audiologist the essential information that is required to determine how to set up your hearing device.

Operating your device

However, this is only one part of your hearing aid fitting. This is also the perfect chance to learn everything you need to about your hearing device, how to care for it properly, and your expectations. Your audiologist will have discussed matters such as cost, levels of technology and styles of hearing aid during your evaluation. Now that you have chosen your hearing aid, during your fitting, your audiologist will make sure that you have a realistic understanding of what your hearing aid can and cannot do. They will explain all of the different features that come with your device and they will demonstrate how to use them.

Proper care and maintenance

Aside from this, your audiologist will explain how to care for your hearing device correctly. He or she will show you how to clean and store your hearing device. They will also explain anything that you should not do with your hearing aid. After all, proper care is essential to make sure that your hearing aid lasts for many years to come and that you get plenty of use out of it. The last thing you want is for it to end up broken because you have cleaned it incorrectly, meaning you have to splash out the cash on a new one.

Your audiologist is also going to talk you through matters such as batteries and battery care. Plus, this is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have. A lot of people write down all of their queries beforehand so that they do not forget anything. You can also take notes during your appointment too, ensuring you do not forget anything the audiologist says.

Hopefully, you now have a better understanding of what you are going to learn during your hearing aid fitting. A lot of people think this is just a quick appointment whereby they will receive their hearing aid and then go, but it is a lot more than this.
